Intimacy over influence
• Michael Ainsworth, Jr.
In Matthew 8, Jesus teaches us to prioritize intimacy with God over seeking influence or platforms. When crowds gathered, Jesus chose to cross to the other side of the lake, demonstrating His desire for deeper relationship rather than popularity. Following Jesus comes with a cost—we must be willing to die to self, putting aside our own desires and comforts. Jesus challenges conditional discipleship, rejecting the 'let me first' mentality that places other priorities before our relationship with Him. True discipleship means following Jesus unconditionally, making Him our first pursuit above all else.
